TRON: ARES SET VIDEO REVEALS NEW LOOK AT JARED LETO IN COSTUME

Production on Tron: Ares is underway, and a new look at the film's lead character has been revealed. In a video that was posted from the set in Vancouver, actor Jared Leto can be seen in costume as Ares, providing what could be the best look yet at the actor unmasked in his suit.

The footage has been going viral on social media, getting shared on X and other platforms. A scene is not actually filming during the recording of the footage, though Leto can be seen walking around on the set in full costume, though without a helmet. A close look at his face seems to reveal some scrapes, suggesting the character may have been in a scuffle. The footage can be seen below.

Tron 3 Adds Gotham's Cameron Monaghan

Gotham actor and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor lead Cameron Monaghan is set to star alongside Jared Leto in Tron: Ares.

Tron: Ares serves as a follow-up to the original Tron movie along with its first movie sequel, Tron: Legacy, respectively released in 1982 and 2010. Joachim Rønning is directing the new sequel, with the screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Along with Jared Leto, the movie stars Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, and Gillian Anderson.

Disney Shared a First Look Photo in February

Officially, the first look at Leto as Ares was revealed in an image shared online in February. That photo showcased a full image of Ares wearing a light suit, though that also included a helmet, and Leto's face couldn't be seen. At the time, Leto shared the image on social media along with the message, "ARE YOU READY?? TRON: ARES 2025. See you on the grid..."

Tron 3 Should Turn to the Animated Tron: Uprising for Inspiration

The short-lived animated series boasted a compelling story, characters and world-building elements, all of which could benefit a third Tron movie.

This will be the first movie role for Leto following his performance as the voice of Hatbox Ghost in last year's Disney movie Haunted Mansion. He is also known for playing Joker in Suicide Squad in 2016, and he reprised the role for Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021. Leto went on to star in the titular role in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe film Morbius, and he starred in and executive produced the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed.

Tron: Ares is the third feature film that has been developed for the franchise. There was an animated television series, dubbed Tron: Uprising, that aired for a season on Disney XD from 2012 to 2013. There have also been a slew of video games inspired by the Tron films, and the acclaimed short film, Tron: The Next Day, was released in 2011 as a tie-in for Tron: Legacy.
