THE PENGUIN 5-MINUTE PREVIEW UNVEILS CLOSER LOOK AT THE BATMAN SPINOFF SERIES

The latest featurette for HBO’s highly-anticipated The Penguin series has dropped, providing fans with a closer look at the show’s main characters and story. This comes ahead of The Batman spinoff’s streaming debut next week.

The video features the cast and creative team as they discuss what to expect from the next chapter in Oz Cobblepot’s story, a week after the death of his boss Carmine Falcone. It highlights his desire to take over Carmine Falcone’s position, as he goes up against the former mob boss’ children, Sofia and Alberto, who are the natural heirs to their father’s criminal empire. In the featurette, executive producer Matt Reeves also opened up about exploring the other side of Gotham where corruption and the criminal underworld reside. It also teases Oz’s complex relationship with his mother, who is one of his major influences.

The Penguin Conquers Gotham in New Trailer for The Batman Spinoff

The Batman's TV spinoff, The Penguin, drops a new trailer chronicling Colin Farrell's titular crime boss and his quest for power in Gotham.

Based on DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, The Penguin is written and executive produced by showrunner Lauren LeFrance, with Craig Zobel directing the first three episodes. The series will be led by Oscar nominee Colin Farrell as he reprises Oz Cobblepot from the 2022 movie. The epic crime saga chronicles the titular villain’s journey to becoming the notorious crime lord we all come to know. Joining Farrell are Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O'Connell as Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, James Madio as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen as Luca Falcone, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Carmen Ejogo as Eve Karlo, Theo Rossi as Dr. Julian Rush and more.

In a previous interview, LeFranc revealed how the upcoming series will help fans differentiate Colin Farrell’s version of the iconic DC villain from other iterations. "This is what differentiates him from previous versions of the Penguin in the comics, where he used to come from a wealthy, well-known family," LeFranc said. "Matt had already made him an underdog in that he was number two to Carmine Falcone in the film, but we didn’t know anything about his family. So it was important to me that he comes from nothing, and he’s really aching to get more status and be seen as more important."

Robert Pattinsons Batman Wont Appear in The Penguin

Following circulating rumors about Robert Pattinson’s appearance in The Penguin, Reeves had finally clarified the speculations about Bruce Wayne/Batman’s involvement in the upcoming series. Despite initial assumptions, he officially confirmed that Pattinson’s The Dark Knight won’t have a cameo appearance in the HBO spinoff. "Rob is not going to be in the show," Reeves said. "I'd rather take the band-aid off now. We did talk about all that, but we felt the best way to do this was to go on a grand exploration of a guy grabbing for power in this moment."

The Penguin is slated to debut on Sept. 19, exclusively on HBO.
