'WE CAN PUSH THE ENVELOPE EVEN FARTHER': WYNONNA EARP SHOWRUNNER HOPES THE STORY WILL CONTINUE AFTER NEW TUBI SPECIAL

Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras opens up about her hopes for the series' future on streaming.

Speaking to Collider, Andras was asked about the extra emphasis on sexuality and adult themes that were present in the recently released Wynonna Earp: Vengeance special, which premiered exclusively on Tubi. "Tubi was amazing," Andras said. "They were like, 'No rules. You can push the sexuality. You can definitely push the language.' The name of the game was elevation. Because we're doing a 90-minute special, we wanted to feel like you could only get it on Tubi in this format, but this isn't something you would've seen in Season 3, for example. So, I was stunned."

HBO's Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content discusses the future of True Detective and whether Season 5 will include any returning stars.

"I don't think there was a single thing we did that they said no to, and I even think if we are lucky enough to do more, we can push the envelope even farther if we want to," Andras continued. "They were such good partners. They really understood the combination of adult grit and humor and feeling and emotion. So, that was quite freeing. But, as fun as all that ornament is on the Christmas tree, you still have to make sure the story is solid and there's the feels and lots of emotion and romance and all that stuff."

Based on Beau Smith's 1996 comic book series of the same name, Wynonna Earp starred Melanie Scrofano as the titular unlikely hero. The great-great-granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, Wynonna inherits a long-lived family curse upon her 27th birthday which effectively forces her to take up her ancestor's "Peacemaker" pistol in the fight against legions of undead Revenants. The series also starred Shamier Anderson as Deputy Marshal Xavier Dolls, Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Wynonna's young half-sister Waverly Earp, Katherine Barrel as Officer Nicole Haught, and Tim Rozon as a near-immortal Doc Holliday.

The Tubi Special Arrives Four Years After Wynonna Earp Ended

The fourth and final season of Wynonna Earp premiered on July 26, 2020, with the series coming to a close after twelve episodes split across two parts. With the series finale, Wynonna and Doc Holliday were left to raise their young daughter in relative peace in the family hometown of Purgatory, which is exactly where the recently released 90-minute special finds the pair. Wynonna Earp: Vengeance brings back much of the original series' starring and supporting cast for a thrilling story which sees Wynonna return home to, according to the official synopsis, "battle her greatest foe yet: a psychotic seductress hellbent on revenge against her... and everyone she loves."

Wynonna Earp: Vengeance is currently available for streaming on Tubi.
