FIRST TRAILER FOR BONG JOON-HO’S MICKEY 17 RELEASED BY WARNER BROS.

The trailer for Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi thriller Mickey 17 was released on Tuesday. Mickey 17 is delayed until next year but fans were happy to get a glimpse of the highly anticipated film.

Based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel, Mickey 7, the film stars Robert Pattinson (The Batman, The Lighthouse), as an ‘Expendable’ named Mickey Barnes, a disposable human employee set on a dangerous mission to colonize the ice world of Niflheim, Variety reports. When one version of Mickey dies, another version of him, that retains most of his previous memories, is created.

Alongside Pattinson, the film also stars Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Steven Yuen (Nope, Invincible), Toni Collette (Knives Out, Hereditary), and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things, Spotlight).

The film was directed, written, and produced by Bong and his production company, Offscreen. Dede Gardner (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Women Talking), Jeremy Kleiner, (Bob Marley: One Love, Minari), and Choi Doo-ho (Okja, Snowpiercer) also served as additional producers. Brad Pitt (Bullet Train, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Jesse Ehrman (The Matrix Resurrections, Ocean’s 8), Peter Dodd (King Richard, A Christmas Story Christmas) and Marianne Jenkins (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Edge of Tomorrow) also served as executive producers.

Warner Bros. previously pushed Mickey 17’s initial release date from March 29, 2024, to Jan. 2025. According to Variety, the pushback was made in order to secure an IMAX release window. The project also needed more time for completion, as production has been affected by numerous production shifts and Hollywood strikes.

Mickey 17 will be released in theaters on Jan. 31, 2025.
