  • The sequel introduces new characters and story elements while revisiting beloved characters.
  • Gladiator 2's action sequences are expected to redefine cinematic action, with a premiere on November 22, 2024.

Joseph Quinn, known for his breakout role in Stranger Things, recently shared insights about the highly anticipated Gladiator 2, assuring fans of the beloved original that the sequel is crafted with respect and reverence. The actor revealed the emotions and dynamics involved in revisiting a story that is beloved by many.

Under the direction of Ridley Scott, Gladiator 2 merges the comfort of familiarity with new story elements. David Scarpa's script thrusts viewers into the life of Lucius, portrayed by Paul Mescal, who has spent 15 years isolated from his family, surviving in harsh conditions. The sequel also sees the return of Connie Nielsen alongside new faces like Denzel Washington, portraying a former slave who rises to wealth, and Pedro Pascal as a hardened ex-military man.

Speaking with Men's Health, Quinn reflected on the collective spirit of the cast and crew, pointing out their efforts to honoring the original film's spirit. He shared:

"It was a remarkable experience. We had a wonderful gang on it Paul Mescal, Fred Hechinger, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen returned from the previous film, and Pedro Pascal, among some other really wonderful people. We certainly were aware of the legacy of the first film, so we wanted to pay homage to that, and understand that its one of those films that a lot of people get misty-eyed about, myself included."

Quinn further added, "Going back near that world felt a little daunting, but also utterly thrilling. Yes, I play one of the emperors in it, and it was a truly incredible experience. And that’s all I can say."
