GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE SEQUEL GETS RELEASE DATE

Warner Bros. and Legendary have set a release date for the next Monsterverse movie. Just days ahead of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire heading to Max in July, it's been revealed that the sequel will hit theaters in 2027.

Per Variety, the next Monsterverse film, which hasn't yet been titled, will premiere in theaters on March 26, 2027. This news follows the successful run in theaters achieved by Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. With more than $570 million earned from the worldwide box office, the film is the third-highest-grossing movie of the year. It is also the highest-grossing film of the entire Monsterverse franchise up to this point.

A Sequel Was Put on the Fast Track

Given the success, it's no wonder why Legendary wanted to quickly move forward with a sequel. This posed one problem as director Adam Wingard, who helmed both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, was already committed to another project. This meant that the next film will have a change in directors, as Grant Sputore has been hired to take the helm with a script written by David Callaham.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will debut on Max alongside a special version of the film with American Sign Language on July 4, 2024.
