'I HAVE TO REMIND YOU...': ORIGINAL NARNIA STAR WILLIAM MOSELEY ADDRESSES POTENTIAL RETURN IN NETFLIX REBOOT

The Chronicles of Narnia franchise is getting rebooted. While the new movie will be unconnected to the previous big-screen adaptations, one of the original stars has expressed interest in returning for Netflix and Greta Gerwig's take on C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy world.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote his new movie Murder Company, William Mosely — who portrayed the oldest of the four Pevensie children — revealed that he would love to return for the new Narnia movie, although he understands that he likely won't get the call to appear. "'Yes,' is the short answer. If I was asked, I would go in a heartbeat," Mosely said. "But I have to remind you of one line from the books and the movies. I think Aslan says it. 'Your time here now is done. Your time is finished.' I remember when I shot that scene in Prince Caspian, it was a sad scene to shoot, but I understood then when Aslan said that to those characters, that when that script is written for me, my time is done. And that's the way it is. If I might ever get asked that, great, but I don't think it's there."

William Mosely Appeared in Walden Media's Narnia Trilogy

First published between 1950 and 1956, The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven high fantasy children's novels by Lewis that primarily follow the adventures of a group of children from the real world who are transported to the magical realm of Narnia, which is populated by talking animals and mythical beasts and overseen by the Christ-like lion Aslan.

Walden Media adapted the first three novels — The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), Prince Caspian (2008), and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) — into a trilogy of commercially successful movies. Mosely portrayed Peter Pevensie in all three movies, alongside Anna Popplewell's Susan Pevensie, Skandar Keynes' Edmund Pevensie, and Georgie Henley's Lucy Pevensie.

After plans to adapt the fourth novel, The Silver Chair, fell apart, Netflix signed a multi-year agreement in 2018 with The C.S. Lewis Company to develop films and television series based on all seven Narnia novels. Gerwig's involvement with the reboot was announced in July 2023, with the director stating later that same month that she was "scared" of helming Netflix's Narnia movies. However, fans should not be worried by Gerwig's comments as she would go on to explain that "when I'm scared, it's always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it'll be like, 'Okay. Maybe I shouldn't do that one.' No, I'm terrified of it. It's extraordinary. And so we'll see, I don't know."

Netflix's Narnia Reboot Is Nearing Production

Gerwig has been working on her Narnia movie since at least 2022, having shared back in February 2024 that she wrote the first draft before she had ever stepped foot on the set of her 2023 movie, Barbie, starring Margot Robbie. While it is still unknown which Narnia book (or books) Gerwig plans to adapt, the filmmaker did share that she was "interested in embracing the paradox of the worlds that Lewis created, because that’s what’s so compelling about them." Production on Gerwig's first of two Narnia movies will reportedly begin this August in the United Kingdom and last until March 2025.

The three Walden Media Narnia films are available to stream on Disney+, while no release date for Netflix's reboot has been announced yet.
