RYAN REYNOLDS RECALLS HUGH JACKMAN'S SELFLESS GESTURE IN X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE
Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to redeem the characters after their botched encounter in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds said that film also demonstrated Hugh Jackman's insane leadership and professionalism.
Deadpool & Wolverine is all but confirmed to be the most anticipated movie of the year, thanks to word of mouth and a viral marketing campaign. The film also features a Marvel rematch that's 15 years in the making; fans agree that X-Men Origins: Wolverine did Deadpool dirty, but it also confirmed Ryan Reynolds was perfect casting. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reynolds recalled his first day on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine; he remembered he was still raw from a red-eye flight that morning but was scheduled to shoot in the evening.
'Hard to Walk Away': Ryan Reynolds Shares Final Deadpool & Wolverine Update
Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds offers one final production update for the hotly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
One of the first sequences they filmed was the elevator scene which had Wade Wilson wielding swords to deflect a barrage of bullets. Reynolds said he wished out loud for a chance to reshoot that sequence, which was an insensitive remark in retrospect. "We finished the day," he revealed. "Everyone was taking all their crap off and getting ready to go back to their hotels. I just, in a cursory sense, said, 'I wish I had another crack at that elevator scene that we shot earlier today. I'm realizing what I could have done, the jetlag is wearing off, and I'm starting to see it." He recalled how his co-star Hugh Jackman rallied everyone for another round of reshoots.
'Not Even A Moment's Hesitation'
"This guy [Jackman] just fired up the lights in there, asked everyone to hop in the elevator," Reynolds continued. "Their willingness to come back is what really spoke volumes about Hugh. There was not even a moment's hesitation. Every single one of them — including the crew, lighting, everything — hopped to it." Jackman praised Reynolds in response, saying, "I see it in full bloom. His creative mind never stops and the ideas just keep coming." Despite their efforts, that elevator sequence still ended up as one of the most ridiculed moments in X-Men Origins: Wolverine; Reynolds even poked fun at the absurdity of that stunt in a Deadpool 2 scene.
'I'm Not Getting the Part': Hugh Jackman Recalls First X-Men Audition for Wolverine
Hugh Jackman initially thought he had failed to get the role of Wolverine in his audition for the first X-Men movie.
In a previous interview, Jackman revealed he was convinced to reprise Wolverine after seeing Reynolds in the Deadpool films. Reynolds said he always hoped that a proper crossover would happen. "For me, it's wish fulfillment," he asserted. "It's not a secret. This pairing has been something I've dreamt about for as long as I can remember." The pair is now poised to induct their titular characters (along with a host of rumored cameos) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
