THE BEST 10 MOVIES TO STREAM IN SEPTEMBER 2024
As summer comes to a close in September, several films that arrived in theaters earlier in the season will be available to stream in September. From action and adrenaline to animated adventures to dystopian thrillers, new releases and will rotate between the various streamer services ahead of the final quarter of the year.

Several streamers debuted theatrically-released films at the end of August, perfect for Labor Day Weekend viewing. Other films released earlier in 2024 or even some that haven't premiered past film festivals will arrive amidst the transition from summer to fall.

A Quiet Place: Day One – August 27 – Paramount+
Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn star in the third A Quiet Place film directed by Michael Sarnoski. The threequel follows Nyong'o's Samira, who watches the robotic creatures hyper focused on sound attack New York City on the fateful day that the world became silent. The film is based on an original idea from John Krasinski, who kicked off the franchise. A Quiet Place: Day One became available to stream on Paramount+ August 27.
Napoleon: The Director's Cut – August 29 – Apple TV+
Ridley Scott's epic historical film Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby added 48 minutes of never-before-seen footage in a new entry on Apple TV+ at the end of August. For those who want more of Napoleon's wife Josephine's origin story and more details about Napoleon's death can now watch more minutes of the film that also features detailed costumes for which designer Janty Yates was Oscar-nominated.
The Fall Guy – August 30, Peacock
Ryan Gosling's ode to stunt performers, which arrived in theaters in May, will be available to stream on Peacock starting August 30. In addition to the final cut of the film that theaters saw, an extended cut version which includes 20 minutes of scenes not featured in the original film, will land on Peacock on August 30.
Kinds of Kindness – Hulu Aug 30
Yorgos Lanthimos' latest film starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Joe Alwyn, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe and more landed on Hulu at the end of August after its theatrical opening mid-June. The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May. The triptych of stories followed the filmmaker's Oscar-winning Poor Things, which also starred Stone and Dafoe.
Babes – Sept 3 Hulu
Broad City creator Ilana Glazer starred in the hilarious and heartfelt Babes from director Pamela Adlon and co-writer Josh Rabinowitz. The movie, also written by Glazer, tackles all the themes of modern motherhood in all of its messy glory. Glazer stars alongside Michelle Buteau and Hasan Minhaj. The film arrives on Hulu September 3.
The Boy and the Heron – Max Sept. 6
Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, a semi-autobiographical meditation, brims with fantastical new creatures that evoke those from past animated features like the Oscar-winning Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. A star-studded English voice cast containing Willem Dafoe, Florence Pugh, Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson, Mark Hamill and others dubs the film, which follows protagonist Mahito as he follows a heron through a mystical tunnel into another realm. The Boy and the Heron, which won Best Animated Feature at the 2024 Academy Awards, will be streaming on Max Sept. 6.
Civil War – Max Sept 13
Alex Garland's Civil War will arrive Sept. 13 on Max. After it premiered at SXSW, Civil War hit theaters in April, and the thriller film marks A24's biggest budget yet. The future American dystopian setting watches military-embedded journalists on the way to Washington D.C., racing warring rebel factions within the United States fighting for control. Kristen Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley, Wagner Moura, Nick Offerman and Sonoya Mizuno starred.
Uglies – Netflix – Sept. 13
Based on the first book in Scott Westerfeld's quartet of novels, Joey King, Chase Stokes, Laverne Cox and Keith David bring Uglies to life starting Sept. 13 on Netflix. Readers of the books, which came out in the early 2000s, will get to return to the idea of a dystopian YA world that was so popular starting in 2011 with The Hunger Games, Divergent and more. The themes of the futuristic society very much hit home with humanity today.
His Three Daughters – Netflix – Sept 20
Netflix acquired His Three Daughters directed and edited by Azazel Jacobs for $7 million out of the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, and it will premiere on the streamer nearly a year after the acquisition. The film stars Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon reunites three estranged sisters whose father's health is in deterioration. Coon's eldest sister acts as the oldest siblings often do, Lyonne's middle one has spent a year taking care of their father, and Olsen's youngest sister tries to mediate while dealing with her own emotions.
Wolfs – Apple TV+ Sept 27
Premiering at the 81st Venice Film Festival, Apple's Wolfs will debut on the streamer Friday Sept. 27 after a limited theatrical release Sept. 20. The action flick stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt, two fixers for hire that cover up messy situations. They get called to clean up Amy Ryan's mess, but have to work together when they normally operate as lone wolves. Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind and Zlatko Burić also star in the film from Jon Watts.
