WATCH KELLY CLARKSON DELIVER TENDER COVER OF PHIL COLLINS' ‘ONE MORE NIGHT'

"One More Night," Phil Collins' lovelorn 1985 single, received the Kelly Clarkson cover treatment on Wednesday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The musician performed the ballad backed by My Band Y'all, capturing the tender essence of the original.

"I know there'll never be a time you'll ever feel the same/And I know it's only words/But if you change your mind, you know that I'll be here/And maybe we both can learn," she sang, drawing out the final note on each lyric.

The Kellyoke performance marks Clarkson's first cover of a Collins record since sharing her version of "Another Day in Paradise" with bassist Leland Sklar in 2022. The year before, she selected his 1990 single "I Wish It Would Rain Down" for the karaoke segment.

This week, Clarkson has performed versions of Adele's "All Night Parking Interlude," Sia's "Bird Set Free," and Michale Montgomery's "Sold." Over the course of the talk show's five seasons, the singer has delivered hundreds of covers spanning chart-topping pop hits, rock classics, and genre-spanning deep cuts.

"It comes down to 18 years of really knowing how she's covered stuff in the past and imaging how she might sing it. There's a lot of guesswork about how she might connect to it lyrically or if it's nostalgic, emotionally," Clarkson's long-time musical director Jason Halbert told Billboard in 2021 about crafting the covers segment on the series. "Sometimes she'll push back and be like, ‘Let's make it cool.' It's about imagining what she's connecting with. If it's an emotional lyric that I've heard her mention in the past, or if it's something she can thematically connect with, we will break it down and make it more acoustic and intimate to focus on the vocal."
