SPOILER ALERT: UNIVERSAL STUDIOS’S NEWLY ANNOUNCED “HORROR NIGHTS” HAUNTED HOUSE IS INSPIRED BY THIS NOSTALGIC FILM SERIES

While you, like me, are likely melting in this sweltering summer heat and feeling like fall is a million years away, I am here with the good news that not only is Halloween closer than you think, but so is Halloween Horror Nights!

A few weeks ago, Universal Studios announced its first brand-new haunted house for the 2024 season, which was none other than A Quiet Place. The mostly silent maze inspired by both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II uses "unique sound design, special effects, and the adept performances" as well as American Sign Language to take audiences through the Abbott family's farmhouse shelter...and perhaps into the hands of a Death Angel or two.

Well, I have an update for you! Another "Horror Nights" haunted house has been announced, and it's one that pulls on the 'ole nostalgic heartstrings. OK, I'll pause to give you a second gather your guesses. Got one?

The latest addition to HHN in both Hollywood and Orlando is...Ghostbusters!

The new haunt will be inspired by the latest addition to the fan-favorite franchise, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. If you're a longtime Ghostbusters fan with a soft spot for the original, fear not! They've got something special for you, too, including appearances from iconic characters, creatures, and ghosts from the whole series.

This spooky maze will transport those brave enough to enter it to New York City, where it will follow the Spengler family and the original Ghostbusters you know and love, all of which are trying to save the world from a second Ice Age and the vengeful spirit of Garraka. And by "vengeful," I mean he and his army want to freeze everyone to death. Fun!

On their quest to defeat Garraka, guests will venture through a top-secret ghost-busting lab run by the original Ghostbusters, Ray's Occult Books shop, and even the New York City sewer system.

Fans can also expect to encounter "iconic ghosts who slime and nefarious villains who are out for revenge – all while trying to escape an army of ghastly creatures bent on cracking bones and turning their veins into rivers of ice," per a Universal Studios press release.

Personally, I am so, so excited for this new addition. It sounds a bit like the Stranger Things haunted house from last year, which immersively transported fans into the world of Hawkins and was an unexpected, standout favorite of mine. So, my hopes are high, y'all!

In addition to A Quiet Place and Ghostbusters, fans can expect plenty more brand-new haunted houses to be announced within the coming months, with 8 total in Hollywood and 10 total in Orlando. You can check out the Discover Universal Blog to stay up to date on the latest HHN news, like their announcement of two new houses — “Monstruos 2: The Nightmare of Latin America” and “Dead Exposure: Death Valley” — in Hollywood.

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights begins Friday, Aug. 30, at Universal Orlando Resort and Thursday, Sept. 5, at Universal Studios Hollywood. Tickets for both Orlando and Hollywood are available now...if you think you're brave enough.
