CARMEN ELECTRA’S “BAYWATCH ”RED LATEX LOOK AT “THAT ‘90S SHOW” PREMIERE WASN’T ACTUALLY INSPIRED BY THE ‘90S (EXCLUSIVE)

The model spoke with PEOPLE about her latest red-hot look on the Los Angeles carpet

Carmen Electra turned heads when she stepped out for the premiere of That ‘90s Show on June 25 in a sizzling red look that seemingly nodded to her famous Baywatch swimsuit.

But in speaking with PEOPLE exclusively at the Los Angeles event, the model and actress (who played Lani McKenzie on the '90s mega hit series) said she wasn’t aiming for ‘90s nostalgia with her look at all.

“I had a rack of clothing and I threw it on,” Electra, 52, told PEOPLE, of her red monochromatic ensemble featuring an off-the-shoulder top and latex pencil skirt, plus black platform heels. “I don't think I've ever worn anything like this.”

Electra does, however, recognize that specific time of her life at her most memorable style era. “I get the vibe. I didn't even want to try to go for a '90s vibe [tonight]. I guess it happens.”

Electra may trying to move away from the '90s with her wardrobe, but she still has some thoughts on old-school ‘90s trends.

Last July, when she and Jenny McCarthy starred in a knockout SKIMS campaign that looked straight out of an MTV commercial, she spoke with PEOPLE about her hot take on the trends of her past coming back into fashion.

“People in the fashion world and young girls, they love the '90s and things that I would never put back on again. I go, 'Oh my God, I remember those. I remember wearing that,' because I wore some crazy stuff.”

However, she stays loyal to the time’s beauty moments, particularly bold lashes.

“I started wearing lashes when I was working with Prince in the early '90s. Then when Kate Moss came on the scene, everyone wanted me to do a makeunder, and I’m like, ‘No, I love makeup.’ Now everyone has their own lash company."

And in a 2021 PEOPLE interview about her brand, GOGO Skincare, Electra called her signature look her “special thing” that she’d rock anywhere anytime (yes, even on her grocery store runs).

“I continued to wear them throughout the '90s, whenever I could. That was the real me."
