NETFLIX UNVEILS ONE PIECE SEASON 2 SNEAK PEEK AS FILMING BEGINS

The upcoming One Piece Season 2 has received a major production update from Netflix. This comes after nearly a year since the live-action series debuted its 8-episode first season.

Posted on YouTube, Netflix has unveiled a brand-new One Piece video featuring the main cast, including Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skyler as they finally reunite in South Africa for the official production start of the popular show’s next installment. Godoy, Mackenyu, Rudd, Gibson and Skyler are reprising their fan-favorite roles as Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji, respectively. In Season 2, the Straw Hats will be expanding their team with the long-awaited addition of Tony Tony Chopper, who, just like in the manga and anime, is expected to become the crew’s official ship doctor.

As they leave the East Blue Saga behind, One Piece editor Eric Litman teases Season 2s thrilling direction.

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga of the same name, the live-action One Piece series hails from creators Matt Owens and Steven Maeda. For Season 2, Owens is once again serving as a showrunner with Percy Jackson and the Olympians scribe Joe Tracz. "I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination, and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season 1," Tracz said in a previous statement. "So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season 2." As for Maeda, despite stepping down as a showrunner, he is still expected to remain as an executive producer.

One Piece Welcomes New Characters

In addition to the returning main cast, One Piece Season 2 will also feature the introduction of a number of new characters. Before Season 2 started its production, Netflix had confirmed the first batch of new cast members who have been tapped to portray several key characters in the next installment. These include David Dastmalchian, Callum Kerr, and Julia Rehwald, who have signed on to portray the fan-favorite roles of Mr. 3, Smoker, and Tashigi, respectively. The latter two marines will be introduced during the show’s Loguetown arc/ episode. Besides Dastmalchian’s Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn, Camrus Johnson, and Daniel Lasker have also joined the show to play the respective roles of Baroque Works members Miss Valentine, Mr. 5, and Mr. 9. As for Rob Colletti and Ty Keogh, their respective casting as Wapol and Dalton teased the Straw Hats crew adventure in the Drum Kingdom, where their sixth member, Chopper, resides with Dr. Kureha.

"They’re doing the thing, and there are a lot of challenges that come with that responsibility," he said. "And that theme ties into some other stories and characters that I won’t give away just yet. But the challenge and leadership is a big theme for us in Season 2."

The first 8 episodes of the live-action One Piece series are still available on Netflix.
